Isabela Birs

Researcher, Automation Department, Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania

I design fractional-order and event-based control strategies for closed-loop drug delivery in general anesthesia. My work runs from patient modelling and simulation to controllers validated on clinical data.

Research focus

Control theory for automated anesthesia

01

Closed-loop anesthesia

Multivariable regulation of hypnosis, analgesia and hemodynamics, treating the anesthesia–hemodynamic system as one coupled process from induction through maintenance.

02

Fractional-order control

Robust fractional-order controllers and autotuners that hold performance under strong inter- and intra-patient variability.

03

Event-based control & simulation

Controllers triggered by measured surgical events, plus open patient simulators built on clinical records for reproducible validation.

Profile

I have worked at the Automation Department of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca since 2016. From 2018 to 2022 I was an FWO-SB doctoral fellow in the Dynamical Systems and Control Research Group at Ghent University, Belgium.

I welcome enquiries about research collaboration, the AnestheSIM simulator and the released datasets.
